more »Pittsburg and Crawford County, Kansas is quickly becoming the place for live music in the region. From the sounds pouring onto to 6th Street from JST Bobby G’s in downtown Pittsburg to a raucous crowd at the annual Red Dirt Night at the Crawford County Fair, live music is everywhere. An example of this will be on full display, Saturday, April 20th as more than 20 bands ascend on Pittsburg for Big Bang Rock Fest 4. This annual event has expanded to include 4 separate locations in Downtown Pittsburg and will feature music for every ear. Like football and fried chicken, live music is quickly becoming another reason to Visit Crawford County! Check out this video to see what I mean. Kansas and more specifically our part of Kansas is often accused of “lacking culture.” First of all, there are many ways to define culture. Head to Hepler, Kansas for the annual Ruritan Club Rodeo, July 3rd and 4th and you’ll experience Crawford County’s “Country Culture.” Or arrive at Carnie Smith Stadium at sunrise, twelve hours before kickoff, and you’ll soon find out about our “Cooking Culture.” But if your definition of culture is a little bit more traditional, then you’re in luck, we have that too. In fact, in April alone there are several opportunities for a “cultural” experience in Crawford County. See a ballet performance of the hit musical “Cats,” performed by the Four-State Regional Ballet at Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium. (April 19th – 21st) On Saturday, April 20th, more than 20 bands will fill four different venues in Downtown Pittsburg for Big Bang Rock Fest 4. Enjoy the play “The History of Laundry,” conceived and directed by Pittsburg State professor Cynthia Allen. (April 25th – 28th) And it doesn’t stop there. This summer we’ll welcome the Smithsonian and their traveling exhibit “The Way We Worked” to the Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, Kansas. (May 11th – June 23rd) In June, we’ll unveil the first ever SEK Art Fest, outdoor exhibit of more than twenty, exquisitely painted, larger-than-life coal buckets, on display in Downtown Pittsburg. (June – August) So whether it’s the dust of the rodeo arena in Hepler or the ballet at Memorial Auditorium, there’s sure to be the “culture” you’re looking for in Crawford County, Kansas.
